Maintenance
(Alimony or
 Spousal Support)

In the past, maintenance (formerly known as alimony) was paid by the husband to the wife in an effort to stabilize the lesser earning party’s living situation.  As society has evolved the traditional maintenance situation is no longer the default during divorce. Recent changes to Illinois family law has set the calculation of maintenance using a statutory formula based on several factors.

To properly calculate maintenance you must rely upon an experienced lawyer who will work diligently to determine what, if any, maintenance would be appropriate.
